SACRIFICIAL ROCK AT EZERSKOLA

Nature / landscape

This rock is of cultural and historical
importance, and it may also be
mythological. It has a circumference
of 8,6 m, and the legend is that a holy
stand of birch trees was nearby. Today
people often drop coins on the surface
of the rock. Nearby is a noble linden
tree which has been damaged by the
wind, but it has a circumference of
5,15 m. It is sometimes known as a sacrificial linden tree. Very close to the rock and on the shore of Lake Pape by the Kalnišķi stream is an usual bird blind which is accessed via a wooden boardwalk. It is something like a Japanese pagoda. During the autumn, patient bird-watchers will be able to spot nearly all bird species that are found in Latvia. You can go on a longer hike or bike ride around Lake Pape. Along the way you will see the listed objects and many others. If you are going to be walking, choose appropriate and comfortable footwear. Depending on the season, they may be many mosquitoes and gadflies. Dress appropriately and make sure to bring insect spray with you.
