THE YOTVINGIAN SACRIFICIAL ALTAR IN STARE JUCHY

In Stare Juchy, stands a remarkable natural and cultural monument – the Sacrificial Stone, one of the largest erratic boulders in Masuria. It measures 4.5 meters long, over 2 meters wide, and has a circumference of 11.5 meters. For centuries, the stone has been surrounded by an aura of mystery and legend. According to legend, it was once the site of pagan Yotvingian rituals, where the Yotvingians offered sacrifices to their gods. The Sacrificial Stone is a natural monument and one of the area's most distinctive tourist attractions. An inscription is carved on its surface, recalling its former significance: "Natural monument / erratic boulder / former Yotvingian sacrificial altar." This unique site combines natural beauty with a wealth of legends and the history of the ancient inhabitants of Masuria. When visiting Stare Juchy, it's worth a visit to experience the extraordinary atmosphere of ancient beliefs and see up close the testimony of bygone centuries.
