THE ANCIENT BALTIC SACRED SPRING IN VIŠAKIO RŪDA

The spring of Višakio Rūda is one of the most fascinating natural landmarks in the Kazlų Rūda region, renowned for its healing properties and unique surroundings. It is located on the edge of the Višakio Valley Botanical Reserve, where sandy forests and riverbank swamps rich in rare plants stretch out. It is said that spring water is exceptionally pure, with a gentle taste, preserving its natural healing qualities. Visitors to this site will feel not only the power of nature but also the ancient spirit of the Balts that pervade this region. Spring continues to attract pilgrims, travelers, and history enthusiasts to this day.
Legend has it that as early as the 18th century, a clergyman, after washing his wounds in the spring’s waters, unexpectedly healed. Another legend tells of a blind soldier who, after washing his face in the spring, regained his sight and saw the Blessed Virgin Mary. This place is particularly sacred – above the well stands a statue of the Virgin Mary, and two chapels are built around it.
