STONE MUSEUM YOTVINGIAN YARD

Historic sites

The "Yotvingian Yard” Stone Museum is a unique place located in the village of Kybartai (in the Lazdijai district), just a few steps away from the Lithuania-Poland border. It was founded by Donatas Mazurkevičius, a history enthusiast who has been collecting stones, fossils, and household items reminiscent of his ancestors since childhood. Here, stones tell stories that date back millions of years – among them, you will find a fossilized coral, a flint arrowhead, or even a petrified tree. According to D. Mazurkevičius, a stone (in the Yotvingian dialect, known as "stabis") is not just a building material; humans have used stones to make their first tools, weapons, and houses, and stones accompany humans to this day as symbols of longevity.
The exhibition is full of millstones, ancient tools, ethnographic household items, and symbolic stone monuments that evoke the spirit of the Yotvingian. A walk through the museum’s courtyard is like a journey through time, from the ancient seabed to the traces left by the Yotvingian ancestors. The composition "Universe," created by Donatas, invites you to feel the spiritual connection with the past. Each stone here is like a small history book, and the founder himself is a living storyteller of this history. A visit to the "Yotvingian Yard" will make you understand how the history of nature and humans intertwines into one unique story.

Visits are possible only by prior arrangement via phone.
