VISITOR CENTRE OF SARTAI REGIONAL PARK

Visitor centers

For travellers exploring Sartai Regional Park, the Visitor Centre offers a deeper understanding of the region’s natural and cultural treasures. The Centre features an exhibition hall where visitors can access comprehensive information about the Park’s unique landscape. The main theme of the exhibition is The Unique Sartai Lake, highlighting the distinct features of this remarkable body of water.

The Visitor Centre provides a modern, immersive experience, featuring information terminals, film screening equipment, interactive displays, and recreations of natural sounds, allowing visitors to experience the essence of nature.

A multimedia wall showcases a documentary on the formation of Sartai Lake, as well as information about the Park’s symbol – the great crested grebe. Visitors can also explore detailed insights into the natural and cultural heritage of the Park.

One special exhibit is dedicated to horse racing, a tradition in Dusetos that dates back over 100 years.

The Centre offers engaging activities for children and curious minds. A bicycle-powered generator allows visitors to pedal and produce electricity, which lights up a table-mounted model of Sartai Lake, creating a fun and educational experience.

Another interactive table is designed for the active travellers. By touching active zones on the Park map, information about the selected site appears on the screen.

One room is dedicated to the Selonians, an ancient Baltic tribe that once inhabited the region. This exhibit features an authentic wooden boat with built-in audio tracks, allowing visitors to sit and listen to traditional songs, legends, and folk chants. A wall projection creates the illusion of rowing across Sartai Lake. There are also mannequins dressed in reconstructed Selonian attire, representing a man and a woman from the tribe.

The exhibition design mimics the lake itself, using special materials and subtle lighting to evoke the feeling of water rippling. The space is thoughtfully arranged with curved exhibition walls, interactive tables, old boats and paddles, paintings of fish and aquatic life.

This exhibition is not only about understanding the natural and cultural heritage of Sartai District, but also about learning to protect the environment and preserve historical sites for future generations.
