Prelomčiškės Mound – A XIII century Jotvingian heritage site located on the western shore of Lake Dusios. It is one of the largest mounds in the Meteliai Regional Park, from the summit of which visitors are greeted by a breathtaking panorama of the so-called "Dzūkų Sea." Once, a well-fortified wooden castle stood here, and at the foot of the hill stretched a large Jotvingian settlement. The slopes reach up to 10 meters, and the embankments and ditches used for defense testify to the strategic importance of this hill fort.
Archaeological studies have revealed ancient pottery shards and traces of a manor from the 16th–17th centuries. Local legends tell of Onelė and the devil, who, transformed into a young man, proposed to the girl. She agreed only on the condition that her suitor would build a mound within two days, on which they would hold their wedding. When morning came, most of the mound had already been built, leading the girl to suspect that her suitor was the devil himself. The next evening, she saw her suitor rise from the waters with his helpers to continue the work. Before dawn, an impatient rooster crowed, and the devil, along with his helpers, sank into the lake, leaving behind an unfinished mound, which is now known as Prelomčiškė Mound.
Every July, the "Oninės" Festival takes place here, reviving old traditions. This is a perfect location for those interested in history, nature, and mysterious legends.
