In the centre of Gołdap, on Lipowa Street, there is a monument to the outstanding philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724–1804), one of the most outstanding thinkers of the Enlightenment, associated with nearby Königsberg (today's Kaliningrad).
The monument was unveiled in 1996 at the initiative of residents and city authorities. Its presence highlights the region's ties to the history and culture of former East Prussia and symbolizes Gołdap's openness to dialogue and the traditions of the borderland.
Today, the Kant monument is a landmark in the city, eagerly visited by both tourists and residents who meet here during walks and city events.
