Margionys is a remote yet vibrant village oasis in the heart of Dzūkija, where nature, history, and tradition come together as one. The village was first mentioned in 1637, but archaeological findings indicate that people have lived here long before that. Surrounded by forests, the village has preserved its old-world charm, with authentic wooden farmsteads inviting visitors to experience true Dzukian life.
The unique cultural heart of Margionys is the barn theater, which has been active since the early 20th century and still brings together local people and guests. Performances are held in a traditional barn, where old songs, passed down from parents and grandparents, are sung. Another integral part of the village is the mystical "Bobos daržas" spring, from which the Skroblus River originates. According to legend, it is here that village children are "born," pulled from the spring by an old woman. This place is also known as the Skroblus Valley, with bubbling water hollows filled with crystal-clear water. Nearby, you can admire archaeological sites, including ancient flint mines and traces of settlements. Margionys is also famous for the impressive four-trunked Lithuania lime tree, under the shade of which you can feel the peace of centuries.
In Margionys, you will discover the living spirit of the old Lithuanian countryside: folklore, the tranquility of nature, and the heartfelt hospitality of the Dzūkai. It is a place where time slows down, and every corner tells its own story.
