LEKĖČIAI GREAT SPRING

Nature / landscape

Lekėčiai Great Spring is a place where, according to ancient Zanavykai traditions, the pure water springs unite the earth and the sky. Flowing from the deep depths of the earth, the spring, which even steams on cold winter days, is considered not only the longest and most abundant spring of Rudšilė but also a living wonder of nature. The elders believed that its water purifies the face, clears the fog from the eyes, and washes away the fatigue of the soul – and so, even today, travelers come here not only to drink but also to find spiritual peace.
It is said that spring’s water contains the power of the ancient forests: here, the old pines and twisted spruces still stand, guarding the secrets of the place. Once, people gathered here to wash their laundry, and during the war, they hid livestock in the spruces – this place has always been a sanctuary for both people and animals. A nearby path winds through blueberry carpets and the site of the former narrow-gauge railway track, reminding one of the times when these forests were full of life. It is said that those who dare to wash their face with the water of the Great Spring will be blessed with clear sight and a light heart.
Here, in the depths of Rudšilė, nature speaks the ancient Baltic language – all one needs to do is stop, listen to the roar of the spring, and let the soul be enlightened.
