KAČERGOS HILL

Historic sites

Just 1.5 km south of the town of Liubavas, right near the Lithuania-Poland border, stands the Kačergų Hill, shrouded in legends and rising 225 meters above sea level. At its summit, there is an observation tower that invites visitors to enjoy the stunning landscape, where, on clear days, five church spires can be seen: from Liubavas, Jelenevo, Vyžainiai, Akmenynai, and Gražiškiai.
This place also has ties to the Soviet era when the tower was used for border surveillance – the demarcation line between Lithuania and Poland passed nearby. Fragments of the former border still remain at the foot of the hill, reminding visitors of the dramatic history and centuries-long changes in this land.
Kačergų Hill is famous not only for its scenic horizons but also for ancient legends about the hill’s secrets and the lives of ancestors. Soon, new recreational infrastructure will be installed here, including comfortable trails, a parking lot, observation decks, and a children's play area.
