HILLFORT IN SZWAŁK

Nature / landscape

Contact us

The hillfort near Lake Ciche is located on a peninsula, on the northeastern edge of the so-called Smolnik or Castle Hill, in a place with impressive scenery. It is separated from the rest of the hill by an artificial ditch, while the waters of the lake provide natural protection from the north and south. A defensive ditch runs along its eastern side. The hillfort consists of a trapezoidal platform (approximately 42×36×55×19 m) and an almost completely disappeared rampart. The early medieval hillfort (10th–11th centuries) was built on the traces of older Iron Age settlements. In literature, it has been known since the interwar period as Klein Schwalg, Smolnik, or Schlossberg. The site is located in a state forest, is not adapted for tourism, and is not accessible by any marked trails.
