HILLFORT IN ROGALA

Nature / landscape

The hillfort, locally known as Zamczysko or Góra Zamkowa (Castle Hill), is located on the northwestern shore of the Rogale channel lake, on the edge of a hill. On the northern side, the site is adjoined by a deep gorge between the Rogale and Rogaliki lakes. The hillfort's main body is oval, measuring approximately 30 meters north-south and approximately 23 meters east-west, and is surrounded by a single, massive rampart. On the northwest side, the ramparts adjoin the extensive plateau of the settlement below the hillfort. This early medieval hillfort was built on relics of settlement from the early Iron Age. The site has been known in literature since the 17th century under the names Rogallen ( Grodczisko , Schlossberg ), Rogale.
Dating: 10th-13th century.
From the top there is a beautiful view typical of this part of Masuria.
