HILLFORT IN GRODZISK

Contact us

The hillfort in Grodzisko is located approximately 6 km south of Banie Mazurskie, on a prominent moraine hill, clearly visible in the landscape. The oval courtyard (approx. 150 x 90 m) is surrounded by a rampart, best preserved on the northern side. A distinctive feature of the site is the central pond, likely artificially deepened. The entrance to the hillfort was from the east, where a gate was later built. Traces of former settlements and fortifications remain around the hill. The hillfort was founded in the early Middle Ages, on relics of settlements from the Iron Age and the Roman period. Known in literature since the 18th century as Grodzysko , Schlossberg , or Grodzisko, it is not currently developed for tourism. Visiting is possible, although hindered by the lack of a trail and a fence for cattle grazing.
