The hillfort in Bajtkowo, located approximately 17 km southwest of Ełk, is situated on a kame-like hill above Lake Bajtkowskie. It consists of two semicircular fortifications – the upper and lower – situated at different heights, separated by a steep escarpment. Both parts were surrounded by ramparts, particularly extensive to the north, where an entrance gate and defensive tower may have been located. The site was partially transformed in the modern period, as part of the park and palace complex; a large cellar was dug into the rampart. The hillfort dates from the 10th to the 13th centuries and has been known in literature since the 19th century under the names Baitkowen , Baitenberg , and Bajtkowo.
Easy access from the DW 667 road.
