Discover the Suvalkija Highlands, which recall the Jotvingians and are located at the borders of three countries – Lithuania, Poland, and Russia – at the Vištytis Regional Park Visitor Center! Here, the interactive exhibition "Hilly Suvalkija" will reveal a unique landscape with the highest morainic hills of Lithuania's Suvalkija and the stunning Vištytis Lake.
During your visit, you'll learn how glaciers shaped this land, hear legends about stones and hillforts, and get acquainted with rare flora and fauna. Playful Suvalkian patterns decorate the exhibition walls and floors, and there are educational games. Young travelers will meet the "vištytis" (a local animal), and curious visitors can count hills, lakes, and swamps, or scatter grains.
You’ll also learn about the unique Grybingiris Forest, the sixth largest stone in Lithuania, and the Dunajus Ridge. Those wishing to explore the region more closely are invited to participate in educational activities or hikes. At the Visitor Center, you'll not only hear fascinating stories but also have the opportunity to experience nature with all your senses.
Near the town of Vištytis, on Long Hill, stands a restored cap windmill – the only one with well-preserved technological equipment in the entire Suvalkija region. To visit the windmill, you must contact the Vištytis Regional Park Visitor Center to arrange a time.
This is a place where Suvalkija opens anew – hilly, mysterious, and rich in history.
