In the Žuvintas Reserve Visitor Center, you will discover a unique exhibition inviting you to explore the only one of its kind natural corner in Lithuania. Here, you will learn about the incredibly rich flora and fauna of Lake Žuvintas, which, according to Professor Tadas Ivanauskas, “is worth preserving.” Interactive displays, bird song recordings, and educational games will allow you to experience the lively world of the wetland. Visitors will hear stories about the largest marsh in Lithuania, covering nearly 7,000 ha, the rarest birds – from cranes to great reed warblers – and the history of the lake's formation. The overgrown, shallow Lake Žuvintas, with an average depth of only 0.6 m and numerous floating plant islands, is the only one of its kind in the country. From the observation tower, an impressive panorama unfolds – visitors can observe birds through telescopes and see nature from a bird's eye view. The center also features a video that lets you experience the changing seasons in this unique place. Creative educational programs are offered for younger children about swans, frogs, bats, and other wildlife. Older visitors are invited to nature lessons, hikes on trails, and workshops, where soil, plants, and the lake's ecosystem are explored. Here, you will also learn about archaeological finds and ancient legends that testify to the connection between humans and this place. Nearby, a nature trail has been established, where you can directly observe and hear the constant life of Lake Žuvintas. The trail is located within the protected reserve area, so visitors are encouraged to follow the specified guidelines: avoid making noise, do not pick plants, and pets are allowed only on a leash.
