The Ethnographic Pranas Dzūkas Homestead is the largest branch of the Lazdijai Regional Museum, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the life of a Dzūkija village from the early 20th century. The homestead consists of six authentic buildings: a residential house, a barn, a shed, a smithy, and two farm buildings, one of which is adapted for stage activities, while a recently renovated building (in 2025) is set up for educational purposes.
The homestead hosts a village amateur theater called "Sodžius," which creates an authentic Dzūkian village atmosphere.
In the homestead's spaces, visitors will find antique furniture, household items, and impressive farming equipment—from tools for making shingles to a unique threshing machine. The highlight of the collection is a massive 8-meter long oil press that was once used for pressing linseed oil.
A unique offering from the museum is the opportunity to sleep on hay bales, so if you're unsure where to spend the night, take advantage of this one-of-a-kind experience. Be sure to arrange your stay in advance with the museum.
You can find more educational programs on the museum’s website: https://lazdijumuziejus.lt/etnografines-prano-dzuko-sodybos-edukaciniai-uzsiemimai-2/.
Visiting here will let you experience the true rural authenticity, learn the secrets of old crafts, and step into a time when life was simple, yet rich in tradition and community.
