DISTRICT MUSEUM IN SUWAŁKI

Museums

The District Museum in Suwałki is one of the region's most important cultural institutions, showcasing the rich history and heritage of the Suwałki Region. It is housed in a historic building dating from 1912–1913, known as Resursa.
The museum offers permanent exhibitions on archaeology (including Yotvingian themes), ethnography, history, and art. Of particular value is the collection of works by Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski, a Suwałki-born painter of the Munich School, whose exhibition is one of the museum's greatest attractions.
The institution also runs a branch – the Maria Konopnicka Museum, located in the writer's family home, offering an interactive exhibition devoted to her life and work.
The museum organizes numerous cultural events, including the Archaeological Festival at the Yotvingian cemetery in Switzerland and the Cavalry Picnic in Suwałki.
